Ethel and Jean Lindsey, who were constantly adopting stray dogs and cats, decided that because they had no children, they would leave all they had to benefit animals.

"The Lindseys often rescued abandoned or abused pets, and they understood the importance of having a strong animal welfare organization in our community," says LA/SPCA CEO Ana Zorrilla. "We salute the Lindseys' compassion and generosity and hope that their gift will serve as an example for others."

A significant portion of the $650,000 donation from the Lindsey estate will support the Louisiana SPCA's endowment, providing long-term income to help cover daily operational costs. We need to build our endowment to cover such expenses as hurricane pet evacuation and humane education programs.

After the death of Ethel in 2001, some friends, who for more than 50 years kept a photo album of all the pets the Lindseys had, organized an annual pet photography show in their honor to raise more money for the Louisiana SPCA.
